Off-duty officer's quick CPR saves a Brooklyn driver
An off-duty NYPD officer pulled an unconscious driver from a moving car in Brooklyn and began CPR, helping save his life.
On a recent Sunday morning in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn, an off-duty New York City police officer noticed a car run a red light near 60th Street and Eighth Avenue and realized something was seriously wrong with the driver.
The officer ran to the moving vehicle, reached in to put it in park, and pulled the unconscious driver out onto the pavement, where he immediately began CPR. The entire rescue was captured on a nearby shop's surveillance camera.
The quick action is credited with saving the driver's life. Local councilwoman Susan Zhuang praised the officer, noting that stopping the car likely also prevented injuries to others nearby on the busy street.
